Neon Sign
Neon signs are custom light-emitting tubes with a different colors that are being designed according to your requirement. It is mostly used at commercial locations like hotels, bars,
party places, and on number of places, especially on almost all that are on at night time.
It looks cool, exciting and colorful and more attractive in the dark times. Here we a get a sight at the history of neon sign
EARLY HISTORY OF NEON SIGNS
Neon sign is considered as a technology and theory behind neon sign starts from 1675. This was the time when even electricity was not introduced or invent
when the French astronomer Jean Picard noticed that a small mercury tube emitting a glow. That was a shocking thing that never been understood or observed by anyone anywhere.
During his observation he noticed that glow would occur only when the tube was shaken because of static electricity in the mercury tube, this phenomenon was not being understood by the Jean Picard at that time in history.
Although it was not understood at that time and not ever reason was found but the science behind it was starting investigation and after few years later when electricity was discovered
and mastered it enabled scientists start to inventing different kinds of lighting that could be enlighten with the electricity.
Although electricity has been invented a so far ago but it was not mastered by any one therefor no body was thinking about it and government of that time’s also banned on the search of electricity. A number of scientists lost their lives to command it.
Most of the time Neon signs, are derived from the work of blower Heinrich Geisler and Julius Plücker.
Heinrich Geisler
and Julius Plücker these men belongs to Germany brought a new revolution in the glass in1850s. Now glass was able to glow and could be used number of other fields.
The Geissler tubes were used in labs and by miners in France for different kind of researches to contain different materials. But the Geissler tubes contained number of gasses including air
that is itself a huge mixture of gasses including carbon dioxide ,mercury vapor. These were used as signs and lamps in the 1890s but still there was no concept of neon signs
As for the neon signs we know and love as bright metropolitan signs with that distinctive glow, now it is the time that really brought the awareness of the neon sign they in 1910 by French inventor Georges Claude.
The first neon lights
that were designed by Georges Claude used glass tubes similar
to the earlier versions of light emitting tubes made the in Germany and used the work of chemists Morris Travers
and Sir William Ramsey to utilize neon gas. Travers and Ramsey exposed that microscopic qualities of neon gas occur naturally in our atmosphere.
As we all knows the atmosphere contains a number of gases and other elements with different quantity and It might be surprising to all readers but
neon is actually fifth most profuse element by mass in the universe,
after hydrogen, helium, oxygen, and carbon. Despite this only 0.0018% of the Earth’s atmosphere is made up of the unscented and colorless gases.
Ramsey and Travers were the first to separate the element, first with liquid argon, which was vaporized to create krypton.
Neon signs
have become popular decorations as well as advertisement and electricity free publicity for people’s office and glamourous artwork for homes. In addition,
in the night times it’s hard to find coffee shops and bars or restaurants that don’t use clever jingles or metaphors made from LED neon illumination on their sites.
Social media is a big part of the reason for the new popularity of neon. Allowing people to capture a snap with the sign and let people know their locations and about their work
that could be easily expressed using Neon Signs.
