Thermal imaging cameras have the ability to detect heat signatures in an array of subjects. For that reason, they have the kind of versatility that can lead to use in the following applications.

For instance, firefighters can use them because they can isolate points of interest rather than depending on noise. It helps them see beyond the smoke to see where those who need help are located.

Thermal imaging cameras have saved countless lives throughout the years because they allow firefighters to act quickly without having to rush headlong into more dangerous situations. They also help to identify areas that have lower temperatures, providing an optimal safe point of entry.

Automotive

Thermal imaging cameras are also quite prevalent in the automotive industry. Temperatures can get quite high, leading to the overheating of components, which can be detrimental to the long-term health of the vehicle.

Higher temperatures can also lead to potential injuries or safety issues. Being able to identify components that are at higher temperatures can give mechanics a better idea of where to start with a fix.

Electrical Wiring Maintenance

Heated components will appear as bright spots when bringing up the thermogram of an electrical panel.

Security

Thermal imaging cameras have become commonplace for many if not most, military groups around the world. These cameras are either part of an individual’s gear or mounted on vehicles. It helps to keep soldiers safe by allowing them to locate a target without having to rush in or expose themselves.

In the last few years, thermal imagers have also been used for home security. These cameras can uncover hotspots even when it is pitch-black outside, making it easier and more consistent to find hiding intruders behind structures or garbage cans.

Gas Detection

Gas leaks are dangerous in the basest sense but there is another aspect that makes them so dangerous. Gas can be odorless and colorless, which makes it hard for the average person to detect. With enough of a gas buildup in a building, even a match strike can wind up setting off a catastrophic event.

Thermal imaging cameras are used to locate any potential gas leaks. When pointed at the surface experiencing a gas leak, the thermal imaging camera will pick up the heat that comes from those areas. That heat is often caused by pressure variance. Not only is it safer to use thermal imaging cameras, but it makes it more convenient for techs to get to the problem rather than having to do guesswork to locate the potential leak.
